Photo and slide competition rules
2007-2009
1. Under normal circumstances, the PASA’s monthly
photo and digital picture competitions shall be held on the 3rd Sunday of
each month, between 1-3 p.m., in room 305 of the New World Centre. The
annual competition shall be held on the 3rd Sunday of Janruay of next year
and at the same time and same venue.
2. The contents of competition shall include
large prints, large print most popular awards, digital pictures and small
prints (4x6). Each member may enter 3 large prints, 3 digital pictures and 3
small prints for each category of competition.
3. The size of large print is from 11”x 14” to
16”x20”. No mat is allowed. Participants should stick their photo to a
16”x20” (or same size as the picture) mount with a thickness of not
exceeding ¼ inch. Title of photo and author’s name should appear on the back
of the mount’s top right corner.
4. Digital picture shall be of resolution 1280
wide. The file format shall be jpeg. All digital pictures shall be submitted
through email no later than one week before the scheduled competition. The
email address for submission is pasa.ed@gmail.com.
5. Large prints and digital pictures are judged
by 3 judges. Most popular awards and small prints are judged by votes, one
vote each from all members present. Each member may select one to three
large prints and one to three small prints they like most.
6. The size of small prints is 4”X 6”. They have
to be commercially produced with machine printed figures and or letters on
the back of prints. Small prints produced privately must be submitted with
the relevant negative to prove no cropping done. Prints with no title and
maker’s name on the back are not qualified for competition.
7. Judges from our own members for monthly and
annual competitions may be invited by the president or the vice-president in
consultation with the monthly competition director. In special
circumstances, invitation of appropriate judges from outside our
organisation is acceptable.
8. Member who take part in that day’s competition
is eligible to serve as judge in that day’s competition but they shall not
give scores to his/her own pictures. The average scores from the two other
judges shall be used as the participating judge’s picture scores.
9. Scores are given based on overall impression
from l to 10 points. 50% of the photos or digital pictures with the highest
scores (no more than 10 photos or digital pictures) may be selected for a
2nd round competition. The points to be given are also from 1 to 10.
10. In giving scores, particular emphasis shall be
given to composition, impact, subject and techniques. These four aspects are
equally important. No scores shall be given for mounting.
11. There are prizes for best large prints and best
digital pictures of the year. The top 3 large prints and top three digital
pictures shall be awarded trophies.
12. The top 3 large prints, the top 3 most popular
awards and digital pictures in each monthly competition may participate in
our best prints of the year or best digital pictures of the year
competitions.
13. In calculating the annual total points, only 2
photos or digital pictures with the highest scores are taken from each
participant each month. That is to say a maximum total of 24 prints or
digital pictures are taken into account in determining a participant’s
annual total scores.
14. A member who enters 3 large prints or 3 digital
pictures in each monthly competition in a given year is eligible for a
diligent award.
15. The top 3 large prints and digital pictures with
points given by our appointed judges at a monthly competition shall not
participate in any subsequent competition. Large prints and digital
pictures below the rank of top 3 at a monthly competition shall not enter
another monthly competition until a period of 12 months has lapsed.
16. If the images of a print and a digital picture
are identical or very similar, that print or digital picture can enter only
one category of competition (large print or digital picture).
17. The judge’s or the Monthly Competition Director’s
decision shall be final.
18. Your Executive Committee may amend the above
rules from time to time subject to prior notice in our Journal.

Photo and slide competition rules
2003-2004
1.
Under normal
circumstances, the PASA’s monthly photo and slide competitions are held on the 3rd

same year and at the same time and same venue.

The contents of

(subject pre-selected) and small prints (4x6). Each member may enter 3 large
prints, 3 slides and 3 small prints for each category of competition.
3.
The size of large
print is from 11”x 14” to 16”x20”. No mat is allowed. Participants should stick

Slide must be framed
in 2”X2” standard cardboard mount.
Glass
mounted slides are also acceptable, but glass over cardboard or slides too thick
for standard projector will not be judged. Slides must have a ¼” dot in the
lower left corner and the slide title and author’s name in the upper right
corner while viewing in an upright front position.
